6 Days Gorillas, Lake Mutanda and Mount Sabinyo Hiking

Enjoy 6 Days of Uganda’s gorillas, Lake Mutanda and Mount Sabinyo on this beautiful package. Spend the first night in Entebbe.

Day 1 Entebbe Airport

On arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and transfer to your hotel in Entebbe. Check into your hotel and relax.

After resting, you can opt-in for a visit to the Zoo or a visit to the beach.

Enjoy local food at a local restaurant for your lunch.

If your safari starts in Kampala, you will do a Kampala City tour where you will visit the Uganda museum, National theatre, religious sites, cultural centres, and downtown Kampala.

Day 2 Entebbe - Bwindi NP

After an early breakfast, checkout of your hotel and head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You can travel by road or domestic flight.

If travelling by domestic flight

Transfer to Entebbe Airport and board your flight to Kihihi Airfield where your guide will be waiting for you to drive you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will enjoy wonderful aerial views of Uganda on this 3hr flight.

If travelling by road

This 7hr drive is an adventurous journey cutting through towns with stop overs at the Equator for an equator experience, and Mbarara town for lunch. Enjoy the community encounters and cultural experiences along the way.

Upon arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, check into Nshongi Camp and relax. Spend the rest of the evening at Nshongi Camp.

Day 3 Gorilla Tracking

Wake up early and have your breakfast. Your guide will drive you to the offices of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the 7am briefing on gorilla tracking. This briefing is done by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and it gives you information about gorilla tracking, rules and regulations. After the briefing, head into the forest with your ranger and begin gorilla tracking. Your guide will stay at the park offices waiting for you.

Bwindi is a beautiful rainforest. It's home to Mountain gorillas, other primates, birds, and other nature. Enjoy these as well as you track the gorillas.

Encountering the gorillas

Upon finding the gorillas, you will spend one special hour viewing them. You will use this opportunity to take as many photos as you wish.

Gorillas are gentle giants. You will be amazed at how gentle and human-like they are.

After tracking, you will trek back to the park offices where you will meet your guide, and also be given a certificate for tracking gorillas. The certificate-award ceremony is an exciting moment with fellow trackers. After this, your guide will drive you back to Nshongi Camp to freshen up and have lunch. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at Nshongi Camp.

Day 4  Lake Mutanda

After breakfast enjoy a wonderful walking experience from Nshongi Camp to Lake Mutanda. Lake Mutanda is a beautiful lake that lies at the backdrop of three mountains: Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo, which offer a stunning sight.

At Lake Mutanda, you will get into a dugout canoe and sail on this beautiful lake. Enjoy incredible sights of Lake Mutanda as you sail. You will visit some of the islands on Lake Mutanda and take walks through their pristine, untouched vegetation. Break for lunch and continue with your exploration of Lake Mutanda.

After, head to your Lodge at Lake Mutanda.

Dinner and Overnight at Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp – Full Board.

Day 5 Mount Sabinyo Hiking at Mgahinga Gorilla NP

Wake up early and have heavy breakfast. With your packed lunch, your guide will drive you to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park offices for a briefing on Mount Sabinyo hiking. This briefing is done by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and it gives you information about the hiking, rules and regulations. 

On this hike, you will be guided by a ranger. You will get a porter to help carry your luggage during the hiking.

When all is set, you will start the hike through the swamps and bamboo forest of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park where you may have a chance to spot wildlife like golden monkeys, forest Elephants, L’hoest monkeys, a number of birds species and on a good day, meet mountain gorillas in the bamboo trees. Your ranger willl give you alot of information about everything that you will encounter which will make your hiking adventurous.

Upon arrival at Mount Sabinyo, begin the vertical climb up to the top. Mount Sabinyo is an extinct volcano - one of the volcanoes of the Virunga Massif. It's highest point stands at 3,669m, about 14 km ascending and descending which takes approximately eight hours to cover the whole round trip. However, this depends on the weather conditions, the hiker's physical fitness and the hiking speed. Mount Sabinyo has 5 peaks with the highest standing in three Countries: Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. Therefore, at the highest peak of Mount Sabinyo, you have an opportunity to be in three countries at the same time. On a clear day while at the summit of Mount Sabinyo, you will have beautiful views of villages and towns in Rwanda, DR Congo and Uganda; and national parks: Volcanoes in Rwanda, Virunga in DR Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, where you'll have come from. You will see the other 7 volcanoes of the Virunga Massif, lakes: Bunyonyi and Muntanda, Rwenzori Mountain ranges among others.

After enjoying the wonderful views from the summit of Mount Sabinyo and taking enough photos, descend to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you to drive you back to your lodge. Upon arrival at your lodge, freshen up and spend the rest of the evening at your lodge relaxing.

Day 6 Mgahinga Gorilla NP – Entebbe Airport

This is the last day of your safari. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Entebbe Airport.

If travelling by domestic flight

Your guide will drive you to the airfied where you will board your domestic flight to Entebbe Airport - a 3hrs flight. Enjoy spectacular views of Uganda from the air.

If travelling by road

Your guide will drive you to Entebbe Airport, making stop overs along the way for lunch and community experiences as time allows.

If your flight is later in the evening, upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will check into your hotel in Entebbe as you wait for your flight. If your flight is immediate, board your flight back home.
