8 Days Uganda Wildlife, Primates & Lake Bunyonyi

Enjoy 8 Days of Uganda’s wildlife, gorillas, chimps, and Lake Bunyonyi. Spend your first night in Lake Mburo National Park.

Day 1 Entebbe Airport - Lake Mburo NP

On arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative, and go for a short tour of Entebbe where you will visit Lake Victoria, Entebbe Zoo, Reptile Village, and a local market. After the tour, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park. If time is limited, upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park.

If your safari starts in Kampala, you will do a Kampala City tour where you will visit the Uganda museum, religious sites, cultural centres and downtown Kampala, after which you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park.

On your way to Lake Mburo, you will make a stop over at the Equator for an Equator experience and lunch, after which you will continue to Lake Mburo National Park.

Upon arrival at the park, you will check into your lodge and spend the rest of the day at your lodge.

Day 2 Lake Mburo NP

After breakfast, head out for a game drive where you will see zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, elands, impalas, among other animals. You can also bike or horse-back through the park as you view animals.

Lake Mburo is a small but beautiful national park known for its numerous lakes, rocks, and zebras. It’s the closest national park to Kampala and the only national park in Uganda where you can view wildlife on a bike or horse.

After viewing wildlife, head back to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can opt-in for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo where you will spot hippos, crocodiles and water birds.

Day 3 Lake Mburo NP - Lake Bunyonyi

After an early breakfast, checkout of your lodge and begin your journey to Lake Bunyonyi. It’s an adventurous journey through communities, towns and rolling hills.

You will arrive in time for lunch, after which you will check into your lodge. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your lodge or by the lake.

Day 4 Lake Bunyonyi – Bwindi Impenetrable NP

After breakfast, spend the morning and afternoon relaxing at Lake Bunyonyi. In the evening, checkout of your lodge and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Upon arrival at Bwindi, check into Nshongi Camp and spend the rest of the evening relaxing at NshongI Camp.

Day 5 Bwindi Impenetrable NP

Wake up early and have your breakfast. Your guide will drive you to the offices of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the 7am briefing on gorilla tracking where you will be given rules and regulations.

After the briefing, you will head into Bwindi forest on foot with your ranger to begin tracking your gorilla family.

Tracking takes at least 3hrs and it requires a bit of physical fitness. You will spend 1 hour with the gorillas. So use this opportunity to take as many photos as you wish.

After tracking and getting a tracking certificate, head back to Nshongi Camp for lunch. In the evening, visit the Batwa for a Batwa cultural experience where you will learn about their way of life and also enjoy their entertainment. After, head back to Nshongi Camp.

Day 6 Bwindi Impenetrable NP - Queen Elizabeth NP

After breakfast, begin your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will do a game drive in Ishasha Sector in search of tree-climbing lions. You will also spot other wildlife during the game drive. After, check into your lodge and spend the rest of the day relaxing at your lodge.

Day 7 Queen Elizabeth NP

After an early breakfast, your guide will drive you to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking.

Kyambura Gorge, also called Valley of Apes, is an extensive valley 1km long and 200 metres deep, covered by forest and drained by a river at the bottom.  It’s a stunning work of nature and home to chimpanzees, hippos, a variety of birds and other wildlife.

Upon arrival at the gorge’s offices, you will be briefed by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers where you will be given information, rules and regulations of tracking. You will be assigned a UWA ranger who will be your guide during the tracking. Your guide will stay at the gorge offices waiting for you.

After the briefing, you will begin descending into the gorge all the way to the bottom. In the process you will see chimpanzees in the trees below you, effortlessly swing from branch to branch, a good opportunity for photos from above. You will also see other primates like olive baboons, vervet monkeys, and black and white colobus monkeys; other wildlife like birds and hippos.

Trekking in the gorge takes 2–3 hours.

Encountering the chimpanzees

Upon encountering the chimpanzees, you will stop to watch them and follow them when they move. You will spend 1 hr viewing them. So use this opportunity to take as many photos as you wish.

After tracking the chimpanzees, you will ascend back to the top of the gorge where your guide will be waiting for you. Drive back to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, go for boat crusie along the Kazinga Channel where you will spot water-loving wildlife including birds, hippos, buffaloes, elephant, among others. After the boat cruise, head back to your lodge and spend the rest of the day relaxing at your lodge.

Day 8 Queen Elizabeth NP - Entebbe Airport

This is the last day of your safari.

After an early breakfast, check out of your lodge and head out for a morning game drive in Kasenyi Plains at Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will spot a variety of wildlife including antelopes, elephants, waterbucks, and if lucky, lions, hyenas, leopards. You will also see a number of birds. You will have packed lunch. 

After the game drive, begin your journey to Entebbe Airport for your flight back home.

If your flight is later: Upon arrival at Entebbe, check into your hotel and relax as you wait for your flight back home.
If your flight is immediate: Board your flight back home.
